As you whisper an ancient incantation and trace a sigil in the air, a shimmering, translucent shield envelops you. For the duration, you gain a spectral guard that reduces the damage of the next melee attack made against you before your next turn by 1d4 + your spellcasting ability modifier. This protective magic fizzles after absorbing a blow or when the duration ends, whichever comes first.

At higher levels, the spell’s potency increases. At 5th level, the damage reduction increases to 2d4 + your spellcasting ability modifier; at 11th level to 3d4 + your spellcasting ability modifier; and at 17th level, to 4d4 + your spellcasting ability modifier.
