In ancient and desolate tombs, the Mummy slumbers as a cursed and undead creature, bound to guard its resting place and protect the treasures and secrets within. Wrapped in decaying bandages and infused with dark magic, the Mummy is a malevolent and relentless entity driven by an eternal curse.

The Mummy is the preserved corpse of a once-living being, its body shrouded in tattered bandages that have withstood the test of time. Its flesh has desiccated and shriveled, giving it a gaunt and skeletal appearance. Its eyes, though lifeless, glow with an eerie, unearthly light, reflecting the lingering traces of the dark magic that sustains its cursed existence.

As an undead creature, the Mummy possesses unholy powers and abilities. It has an aura of desecration that weakens the living and saps their vitality. Its touch carries a curse, draining the life force of those unfortunate enough to be struck by its decaying hands. Some Mummies also possess the ability to command the spirits of the dead, summoning spectral allies to aid in their defense.

Mummies are often found in ancient tombs, their eternal guardianship driven by an unbreakable compulsion. They serve as protectors of sacred sites, ancient relics, and forbidden knowledge, ensuring that only the most worthy and courageous can access their guarded treasures. Their lairs are often littered with the remnants of past intruders, preserved for eternity as a warning to would-be trespassers.

To face a Mummy is to confront an embodiment of ancient curses and vengeful spirits. Its presence radiates a malevolent aura, filling the air with an oppressive sense of doom. The Mummy’s relentless pursuit of those who disturb its resting place leaves little chance for mercy or negotiation, as it is driven by a single-minded purpose to fulfill its duty as an eternal guardian.

Mummies serve as cautionary tales and reminders of the consequences of meddling with the powers of the undead. They embody the wrath and vengeance of the cursed, standing as obstacles to be overcome or as harbingers of ancient secrets and knowledge. Whether encountered as formidable adversaries or as enigmatic entities holding the keys to forbidden wisdom, Mummies add a touch of ancient mystery and peril to the realms of adventure and exploration.

Actions

  • Multiattack: The mummy can use its Dreadful Glare and makes one attack with its rotting fist.
  • Rotting Fist: Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 10 (2d6 + 3) bludgeoning damage plus 10 (3d6) necrotic damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 12 Constitution saving throw or be cursed with mummy rot. The cursed target can’t regain hit points, and its hit point maximum decreases by 10 (3d6) for every 24 hours that elapse. If the curse reduces the target’s hit point maximum to 0, the target dies, and its body turns to dust. The curse lasts until removed by the remove curse spell or other magic.
  • Dreadful Glare: The mummy targets one creature it can see within 60 ft. of it. If the target can see the mummy, it must succeed on a DC 11 Wisdom saving throw against this magic or become frightened until the end of the mummy’s next turn. If the target fails the saving throw by 5 or more, it is also paralyzed for the same duration. A target that succeeds on the saving throw is immune to the Dreadful Glare of all mummies (but not mummy lords) for the next 24 hours.
